The Ulster County CA$H Coalition, led by the United Way, is recruiting Volunteer Tax Preparers for its Super Saturday tax preparation days at the Hudson Valley Mall in February 2011.

The mission of the Ulster County CA$H Coalition is to help low-wage workers access the Earned Income Tax Credit, and any other tax credits for which they are eligible, in an effort to improve their financial standing.
Last year, the Ulster County CA$H Coalition helped 598 local families access $870,407 in tax credits. Families used the credits to pay rent and utilities, and buy basic necessities like food and clothing. Not only is it a program that helps local families, it helps the local economy too!
Training for new volunteer tax preparers will take place on Monday, September 13, September 20, and September 27, from 6-9 PM at the United Way office, 450 Albany Avenue, Kingston. Trainer Marcia Kemp will review all the basics, and work with you so that when Super Saturdays arrive, you’ll be ready to handle your first customer with confidence! If you have a laptop, please bring it with you to the training. If not, we’ll either supply you with one, or partner you with someone who does.
If you already have experience doing tax returns, you may not have to attend all three sessions, however, you’ll need to speak with Marcia so she can determine your level of expertise, and recommend the appropriate training. Because tax returns have many nuances, we do encourage volunteers to attend as many of the trainings as possible, even if you are an experienced tax preparer.
Dates for the Super Saturdays, when the tax preparation takes place, are January 29, February 5, February 12, February 19, and February 26. The expectation is that a volunteer commits for at least two Saturdays.
