Stream Steward Volunteers Wanted in Ashokan Watershed

by | Jun 5, 2010

The Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program seeks volunteers for its Stream Stewards Program.
Stream Stewards is an ongoing group of volunteers with an interest in protecting the streams of the Ashokan Watershed. The Ashokan Watershed includes the Esopus Creek and other Catskill streams flowing into the Ashokan Watershed. The purpose of the program is for volunteers to have fun getting involved in stream-based projects that visibly model and spread knowledge about good stream stewardship. Some of the opportunities available are: stream clean-ups, assisting at local festivals, streamside plantings, stream monitoring, outreach to local communities, invasive species control, and organizing local events.

On July 17, volunteers will participate in a one day training on various monitoring methods, invasive plant identification and control, and learn about ways to protect this environment. Additional ongoing trainings are provided and volunteers support community activities with their knowledge.

To become a Stream Steward, please contact Dona Crawford at dm282@cornell.edu or 845-688-3047. Or, go to our stream steward webpage at http://ashokanstreams.org/streamstewards.html to download a volunteer opportunity form and send it in.
