Save Them Now celebrated its 2nd anniversary Saturday night, Feb 28th at Queens Galley. The organization provides transitional housing to Ulster County men who have recently returned from prison or long term treatment programs.
Save Them Now is an independent NYS not-for-profit corporation, founded in 2007 with assistance from the New Progressive Baptist Church, 8 Hone Street, Kingston, NY. STN’s mission is to assist Ulster County residents leaving incarceration or long term treatment programs in finding permanent housing and employment while helping them re-establish ties to family, friends and community. The program houses 12 residents at 254 Washington Avenue.

Save Them Now, celebrating its second year of operation in Feb. 2009, provides transitional housing to Ulster County men returning from incarceration or long term treatment programs. Located on Washington Avenue next to Queens Galley, the program currently houses 12 men with funding from state and county sources. The Board of Directors meets monthly at New Progressive Baptist Church in the Rondout area of Kingston, which helped found STN in 2007. STN does not accept sex offenders. In 2009, STN will launch a carpentry program at the former Ulster County Jail, with a grant from Assemblymember Kevin Cahill. The program also has received a NYS Dept of Environmental Justice grant to train 10 men as residential energy auditors. The Board is seeking to expand and, in particular, is in need of a treasurer. Volunteers also are needed to speak on various life skills issues at the program’s twice monthly house meetings.
