New York State Assemblyman, Kevin Cahill paid a visit to the third grade classrooms of teachers, Michael Pettit and Krista Priestley at George Washington Elementary School in Kingston, NY. Assemblymen Cahill was there to promote Agriculture Literacy Week which takes place each spring in support of its mission of fostering awareness, understanding and appreciation of agriculture and the food and fiber system in New York State.
On Friday, March 20, 2009, New York State Assemblyman, Kevin Cahill paid a visit to the third grade classrooms of teachers, Michael Pettit and Krista Priestley at George Washington Elementary School in Kingston, NY. Assemblymen Cahill was there to promote Agriculture Literacy Week which takes place each spring in support of its mission of fostering awareness, understanding and appreciation of agriculture and the food and fiber system in New York State.
Assemblyman Cahill spoke to a captive audience of third graders about the importance of good nutrition and the huge part agriculture plays in Ulster County, Cahill then read a new children’s book written by New York Agriculture in the Classroom (NYAITHC), which highlights the NYS Apple Industry and features several fun facts about apple production in New York State, entitled “The Applesauce Banditâ€.
Following the presentation several copies of the book were donated to each classroom as well as the schools library and the Kingston Public Library.
