Apple Gleaning Friday – Volunteers needed to help harvest + deliver fresh food for local pantries!

Thank you so much to our amazing team of volunteer gleaners who picked 50 bushels (over a ton!!) of apples in just 3 hours December 4th!! And special thanks to our farmers, Julie of Little Dog Orchard and Billiam of Liberty View Farm for donating the apples, and to our new friends at Woodcrest who have volunteered to process the apples into apple sauce for local food pantries and soup kitchens.

Thanks also to Hurd Orchards for donating an additional 4000lb of fresh apples which were delivered December 16th along with the 750 quarts of apple sauce to 19 local pantries and soup kitchens!

Just when we thought we’d wrapped up our seasonal gleaning project for 2009 (thank you again to everyone who helped out!!), we got a call from a wonderful local grower who still has apples on her trees she’s willing to donate!

Gleaning
Volunteer gleaners needed to pick apples Friday morning, December 4th, 9am-noon. The wonderful farm donating the apples is located Clintondale, 10 minutes south of New Paltz (contact Beth for directions).

Stiles from CCE and Beth, Rik & Nancy from UlsterCorps will be there and we would love the help of as many others as possible!

Processing

Our good friends at the Woodcrest Community have volunteered to help with processing the apples into apple sauce Monday, December 7th and would welcome 2-3 volunteers to assist.

Transporting
Volunteers needed to help with transporting the bags of fresh apple sauce to local pantries Wednesday December 16th. Meet at Rosendale Rec Center at 10:15am.
