United Way has been providing free tax preparation to low wage workers for years and with our reputation for excellent customer service, demand is high! So, we’re looking for new volunteers to expand our team.
Candidates must be comfortable working with laptop computers, learn to use tax software, and be able to work with diverse people. Volunteers must complete online courses in Federal and NYS Tax Law and pass a certification test by December 31. Training and technical assistance will be provided by experienced volunteers. Tax season runs from February to mid-March with sessions on Saturdays at the United Way office in Kingston. Preparers do not need to attend all sessions.
Want to help, but not comfortable with all those numbers? We can use Greeters – who welcome clients, help sort paperwork, and enter contact information in the computer program.
