RECRUITING COMMUNITY FUND VOLUNTEERS!!!!
SEE WHERE YOUR UNITED WAY DONATION GOES AND THE GOOD IT DOES!
Visit United Way funded programs, meet the staff, and see the programs in action.
What’s a Community Fund Volunteer?
Community Fund Volunteers review requests for funding, allocate funds, and then perform site visits to funded programs. It’s a two year process; reviewing requests and allocating funds one year, and performing site visits the next. This year, volunteers will perform site visits. The expectation is that you would be available to review funding requests in Spring 2011.
When do site visits occur?
Site visits take place from July-October.
How much time do site visits take?
The site visit portion of this process includes a mandatory 2-hour training in June. In addition, each volunteer will be expected to perform 1-2 site visits
approximately 3 hours each between July and October.
In November 2010, there is a Site Visit Report Meeting where volunteers report their findings to a committee of their peers. The total time commitment will be 7-10 hours over the course of the six months.
When is the training, and what does it cover?
Training is Thursday June 3 from 3-5 PM at the Business Resource Center, Room 125, One Development Court, Kingston. (Ulster Avenue, next to the Kings Valley Diner. Facing the building, it’s the far left entrance). United Way has developed a survey instrument that is used at site visits, and the training consists primarily of reviewing this, and the proper way to administer it.
Is anyone eligible to become a Community Fund Volunteer?
Yes, almost anyone is eligible. The only people who are not eligible are staff members of United Way funded agencies. Those who volunteer for United Way funded agencies may become Community Fund Volunteers, but in order to avoid any conflict of interest, they are asked to excuse themselves from any deliberations pertaining to the agency they volunteer with, and cannot perform site visits at these agencies.
If I’m interested in becoming a Community Fund Volunteer, what do I do next?
Download and complete a Community Fund Volunteer Information Sheet. Return it to Stacey Rein by Friday, May 28, 2010, via email, fax to 845-331-4789, or send regular mail to:
