The Holiday Mail for Heroes program, sponsored by the American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes Inc., offers Americans the chance to send holiday greetings and thanks to active U.S. military personnel and veterans. The program will deliver your bought or hand-made cards to military bases and hospitals, veteran’s hospitals and other locations in the U.S. and abroad during the holidays. Cards should be sent to:
Holiday Mail for Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456.
Please be sure to affix adequate postage. Cards must be received no later than
December 7. For reasons of processing and safety, Holiday Mail for Heroes asks that participants refrain from sending “care packages,” monetary gifts, using glitter or including any inserts with the cards. Additional ways to become involved with Holiday Mail for Heroes include connecting with fellow card senders at www.facebook.com/redcross and www.twitter.com/redcross (#holidaymail).
Friends and family members of soldiers serving abroad may also wish to send holiday packages to a U.S. soldier this holiday season. Information regarding postage, packaging, and obtaining a free Military Care Kit can be found by clicking here, or by contacting the USPS at 1-800-610-8734.
If you would like to show your support by sending a package, but do not have a specific serviceman or servicewoman in mind, the Department of Defense offers a listing of organizations such as Give 2 The Troops or Any Soldier Inc. that offer ideas for care packages and mailing instructions for sending packages to soldiers who may not receive much mail.
Let’s show our appreciation for the incredible sacrifices made by our troops every day, and especially during the holiday season.
