The Mohonk Preserve Hawk Watch volunteer group members assist in identifying hawks in flight and recording data. Additionally, volunteers will contribute data to the Hawk Migration of North America (HMANA) database. Volunteers must be available weekly early September through late November.
The Mohonk Preserve’s Hawk Watch program will be starting soon. We are in need of new and active volunteers to help with this group. Please sign up for the Hawk Watch Volunteer Orientation on Saturday, August 24th from 9am to 1:00 pm in the Visitor Center Conference Room. Register today for the training, which will take place both indoors and outdoors.
The second part will include a field trip outdoors to the Hawk Watch site. Anticipate a short, moderate hike up to Millbrook. It is much shorter (15 minutes) to take the Millbrook Ridge trail but very steep and rocky. The other option is Bayard’s path and that takes about 45 minutes and is of moderate difficulty.
