HPSP is based in Woodstock and was founded in 1990 as a not-for-profit organization, dedicated to helping the poorest segments of Haiti’s population, and, in particular, the children. The objective of this fundraising event is to help 5 orphanages near Port au Prince. To this end, HPSP has started CHILDREN HELPING CHILDREN ACROSS BORDERS, a campaign with local schools in our area, which endeavors to enlist local children in helping the 400 orphans of these 5 orphanages. Our hope and dream is to have schools in Onteora, Saugerties, Kingston, and Rondout Valley participate. How wonderful would that be! I know this is a big idea but I believe we can achieve our objectives if we join together.
This is where we need your help. At the concert, HPSP will announce the participating schools. A student and teacher representative of each school will receive a packet of fundraising ideas, names of the orphans with whom to start a pen-pal project, and a list of needs for which students can choose to fundraise.
We believe it is priceless to involve our children, as part of their social education and human development. Let us help create relationships with these 400 orphans, and help facilitate a true experience of service-learning.
If you’re interested, please contact me as soon as possible. Click here for a program description of the April 23rd fundraiser.

Follow up March 23rd, 2010Thank you all for wanting to help in this great cause. I would like to give you a brief update. Woodstock Elementary has promised to adopt an orphanage.
We are doing so by having a group of children come to an after school program to make Peace Packs. These packs will be decorated by the children and then be filled with pens, crayons, paper, books etc.
We hope to have some children also write a letter with their picture attached.
Woodstock Elementary also did a Penny Drive which raised $2400 in one week! This is a great way for the kids to help. Other ideas have been bake sales, auctions etc.
Please feel free to explore any kind of fund raising you think your school would like. We at Woodstock Elementary are reaching out to the student council to help promote the Peace Pack day and to make posters to put thru out the school.
As soon as I get the names of the orphanages I will pass that on to you. I also hope to get some pictures of the children.
If I can help in any way please feel free to call or e mail me. If anyone would like to meet we can also arrange a meeting time.
I would also like to ask that if and when you get your school to commit to adopt one of the orphanages to please let us all know.
Best wishes,
Gina
