Saturday, July 25
On Sat. July 25th spend a day of fun on a personal farm-to-table tour! Meet RVGA farmers on the farmland where their families have farmed for generations. Sample and take home produce and learn about local food specialties and agriculture practices from the real experts, the farmers who grow our food and care for our livestock.
Registration is from 9:00-11:00am at Saunderskill Farms on Route 209 in Accord, where participants can start with a coffee or tea and their famous cider donuts. Tour goers will receive an RVGA Jumbo canvas tote to bring home produce from our farms and a tour packet with a map of participating farms, schedules for the day, discount coupons and other goodies. They will also receive a booklet featuring “Our Bounty” articles on each of the locations including Saunderskill Farms, Kelder’s Farm, Homegrown Mini Golf, Davenport Farms, Duchess Equestrian Center, Catskill Native Nursery, and Gill’s Farm. Each farmer will offer field and facility tours, share history, stories, fun facts and tastings on either a morning or afternoon schedule. Lunch discounts are available at participating venues, and the day will conclude with an afternoon tea party at Marbletown Elementary School’s garden/farm, in recognition of RVGA’s Farm to School initiative and partnership with From the Ground Up.
The Family Farm Tour is sponsored in part by a grant from the Pure Catskills Buy Local campaign, an economic initiative of the Watershed Agricultural Council, and by the generous support of participating farmers from the Rondout Valley Growers Association.
Tickets are $12/person, $25/family for RVGA members and $14/person, $35/family for non-members; children under 12 are free! This is a self guided tour along the Valley; take your time to savor Our Bounty.
Volunteer information and logistics staffing/tour guides needed
We will need volunteers at farms to direct participants, assist farmers as necessary, and give info. People can volunteer either in the morning from 9-12, in the afternoon from 12:30-3:30 or at both sessions. There will be opportunities for volunteers to participate in the educational as well as recreational aspects of this event. Volunteers will receive an RVGA T-Shirt, and have a lot of fun! Please contact Susan Perrin at 657-5701 or susan@rondoutvalleygrowers.org.
