The Ulster County Firefighter Discovery Program is a comprehensive Junior Firefighter initiative designed for youth ages 14 to 18, supporting fire and emergency service departments. Its primary goals are to foster relationships between youth and emergency services, engage young people in learning about these services, and cultivate future members of the emergency services community. This program is vital as it promotes youth participation within the fire and emergency services sector, attracting individuals at a young age and fostering lifelong connections, whether as future first responders or community supporters. Firefighter Discovery Program 56 offers numerous benefits, providing a safe, controlled, and fun learning environment where participants can learn about local fire, rescue, and emergency medical services response organizations. It imparts valuable life skills such as teamwork, leadership, responsibility, and commitment to teenagers during their formative years. Additionally, the program offers nonoperational support to volunteer fire departments and serves as a powerful recruitment mechanism. By engaging youth between 14 and 18 years old, this initiative not only prepares the next generation of emergency service professionals but also builds a stronger, more resilient community with increased awareness and support for these crucial services.
