We are searching for a part-time, volunteer Treasurer to join our small but growing community based Not-for-Profit organization supporting the mission and opening of the first Home for the Dying in the Hudson Valley (Circle Home) due to open in 2020.
Reporting to the Board Chairperson and Board members and working with a Bookkeeper, this person would be responsible for the financial management and operations and objectives of the organization. In the role you would be charged with oversight and reporting of all finances in accordance with the organization bylaws.
In the role you would be responsible for:
Financial management and/or oversight. This would include creating and maintaining systems for ensuring the organization’s ongoing solvency and oversee the development of the organization’s financial policies.
Budgets. This includes preparing, or facilitating the preparation of an annual budget, as well as regularly monitoring and comparing the actual revenues and expenses incurred against such budget. The development of a budget that supports the organization’s goals and drives decision-making is an important part of an organization’s success in effectuating its mission.
Reporting. This includes gaining the knowledge and understanding of the organization’s financial reports and important financial ratios. and keeping the board apprised of key financial events, trends, and concerns, and assessments of the organization’s fiscal health. You will be responsible for completing, or ensuring the completion of, required financial reporting forms (including the IRS Form 990) in a timely manner and making these forms available for the board’s review.
Financial Liaison. We are looking for someone who would be able to translate financial concepts and information for board members who do not have financial backgrounds or substantial financial experience. We are looking for someone who would be most effective to the board by facilitating and encouraging the board’s strategic thinking about the short and long term financial vitality of the organization in relation to its advancement of the organization’s mission.
Desired attributes include financial literacy, attention to detail, timeliness in completing tasks, clear and accurate record keeping, and a willingness to ask questions. You should be someone that is able to have a strong impact on the public’s perception, trust, and assurance in the nonprofit as a whole. A history of trustworthiness and ethics is a must. You will need strong computer skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently with a diverse group of people and community based organizations.
We are looking for a local person connected with the community with a strong personal connection to the cause. This role will require attendance at monthly 2-hour evening Board Meetings held on the 4th Thursday of each month. Additional work would be approximately 6 hours a month.

Circle of Friends is a 501c nonprofit organization created in 2012 to create and oversee a safe comfortable residence for terminally ill people in need of a home and primary caregiver during their final months. A home for the dying in our community will help fill the gap in hospice services in Ulster and Dutchess Counties.
