Kingston Parks and Recreation and Kingston Cares are looking for volunteers to assist with the drop in after school program at the Everette Hodge Community Center. The program runs Monday-Friday, 2:30-5:15pm. The following volunteer positions are available:
- Front Desk Attendant– this position includes assisting children with signing in upon arrival, welcoming all visitors of the community center and assisting staff with the sign out process at the end of the day. Skills required: Effective communication, good writing skills, friendly personality, and ability to multi-task. Bi-lingual is a plus.
- Program Support- this position includes working with children one on one and in small groups, with supervision, during the program. Program areas include: homework help and tutoring; outdoor recreation/play; indoor recreation such as board games and cards; arts and crafts; creating music and other youth friendly activities that promote skill development. Skills required: Group facilitation; ability to work with children in an age-appropriate way; patience; creativity; and ability to lead activities with staff support.
- Menu planning and food preparation- this position includes creating menus that meet state guidelines for healthy snacks and meals, leading cooking workshops with children and/or involving them in the food preparation process, and helping staff to serve “family style” snacks or meals. Skills required: knowledge or interest in nutrition- staff can train the right person; group facilitation; basic cooking skills; and the ability to be creative with food recipes.
