Woodstock Organic Waste (WOW) is a working group of Woodstock NY Transition. Our goal is to create a program to teach and help our community to separate organic waste from the regular trash in Woodstock, NY, and then have a hauler deliver that material to the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency’s (UCRRA) state-of -the-art composting facility on Rte 32 on Kingston, NY. That organic waste will then to be be turned into compost for use by local gardeners, landscapers and farmers.
We have aligned ourselves with the Wednesday Woodstock Farmer’s Market to create a community organic waste composting drop-off beginning next Wednesday June 18th. It will continue every Wednesday through the end of the Farmer’s Market season.
We have also been given permission by our supervisor, Jeremy Wilber, to set up organic waste composting drop-offs at our 4 town events that the town itself will pick up and bring to the UCRRA composting facility. They are Volunteers Day on August 16, 2014, and our town celebrations on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Martin Luther King.
We need volunteers to supervise the proper drop off of organic materials into correct bins at the Wednesday Farmer’s Market and the town celebrations mentioned above.
