Volunteering at Family has tremendous benefits: It’s a great way to get to know people in your community. It’s a chance to learn new skills while making a difference. It’s a way to contribute where you live. Ready to get started? Here are a few ways you can help out:
HOTLINE TRAINING
Family of Woodstock’s 34 hour volunteer is offered twice a year. Come and learn how to use your skills for listening and compassion for the well being of yourselves and your community. It’s a fun place to volunteer and we are currently in need of more help. For more information call 845 338-2370, e-mail scarroll@fowinc.org, or stop by 16 Rock City Road in Woodstock to fill out an application.
TEXT CRISIS COUNSELING
Family is excited to be introducing text crisis counseling to the services offered by our hotlines, and we are looking for text-savvy volunteers to help out! To participate, you will need to take the Hotline Training. Additional trainings will be offered for those interested in being part of our text crisis counseling team. For more information call 845 338 – 2370, e-mail tcooper@fowinc.org, or stop by 16 Rock City Road in Woodstock.

FAMILY OF NEW PALTZ FREE STORE
We at Family struggle with the free clothing policy. There is a small percentage of people who take advantage and take more clothing than they could use. At this point the clothing room is open to the public all the hours that Family is open. We think it would better serve our consumers if we had set hours for the clothing room and volunteers to oversee the room, which would include sorting the incoming clothing and monitoring the people using the room. We instituted a one bag policy for clothing, but this has been mostly disregarded as the hotline/front desk volunteers are usually so busy they cannot pay attention to people in the clothing room. We are looking for people who have a few hours a week to help us with the clothing room. The sad part of all of this is when we have an emergency situation it is at times hard to help. Please call 255-7957 if you would like to join our helping family.
