Family of Ellenville is searching for VOLUNTEER GARDEN COORDINATORS to help
organize, promote and plan programming at the Aiyana Community Garden, a youth
run project in the center of Ellenville.
Established in 2009, Aiyana (“forever flowering”) Community Garden is a 1700 sq.
ft. raised bed vegetable garden, planted and worked by youth and adult
volunteers. Community members are welcome to come in with friends and family to
work, harvest, and otherwise enjoy themselves, hence their motto, “weed a
little, eat a little”. Surplus crops are donated to the food pantry at Family of
Ellenville which distributes monthly food packages to more than 600 families in
need per year.
The Family of Ellenville VOLUNTEER GARDEN COORDINATOR responsibilities would
include one day a week for up to two hours to perform duties such as ordering
garden supplies, coordinate youth visits for planting out, maintaining and end
of season clean-up schedules and strategic planning.

The Aiyana Community Garden Mission: Providing health and social education to
youth through community service in a sustainable “living food pantry”.
About Family of Ellenville: is a network of individuals, paid and volunteer,
whose mission is to provide confidential and fully accessible crisis
intervention, information, prevention, and support services to address the needs
of individuals and families. The scope of the agency’s vision allows us to
bring to bear resources to address a broad spectrum of human problems. We
believe that the common ground which unites us, both helper and helped, is
greater than the differences which divide us, and that everyone deserves the
respect and support of our larger community. We seek to embody and model the
qualities of caring and respect within our organization and with those whom we
serve. We maintain an attitude which is non-judgmental and non-directive, so
that all individuals are encouraged to resolve problems in a way that honors
their own diverse cultural and personal choices. In this work, we are committed
to search all avenues for assistance, creatively combining resources, as needed.
In addition to assisting individuals, we continually seek to improve the quality
of life in our community by addressing gaps in services and by advocating for
more comprehensive, effective and humane responses to people’s needs.
