Celebration of Service Quilt
The mission of the Quilt project is to recognize and remember those who have volunteered, to educate about the importance of service, and to inspire others to become more involved.
One of our main goals is to engage both long-term quilters and young people in the process, fostering inter-generational discourse through a collaborative art project. The Quilt will travel and grow as more and more people contribute their stories. A virtual version will also be displayed on our website. People will also be able to submit stories of service online, which will be printed and transferred to fabric.
Quilt patches may:
• reflect upon a service project the student has participated in
• honor a volunteer, leader or community member that has inspired the student to care for others
• highlight an agency, church or club that serves others
• share a community value that inspires the student
• highlight a community need
Quilt patches must be 8â€x 8â€, preferably made of cloth, paper or light material. Multiple colors, images (including photographs) may be used; contents must be respectful to all.
Materials can include photographs, paint, indelible ink pens, stencils; be sure not to affix thick or heavy items. Note that panels will be transferred to fabric if they are not originally created on fabric and stitched; please leave a half-inch border to allow for stitching. If you would like to submit multiple panels and have all your panels be displayed together, please note this either on the backs or borders.
To submit your panel so that it becomes part of the Community of Service Quilt
