Trolley Museum of New York at Kingston seeks volunteers
THE TROLLEY MUSEUM OF NEW YORK on the Rondout waterfront in Kingston, sited on the original Ulster & Delaware railyard, is a living history center that restores and records the impact of trolleys on America’s urban growth in the 19th and 20th centuries. We host a collection of September 11th artifacts graviously donated to us by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, including on display, PATH PA-1 commuter car, no. 143, which survived the collapse of the World Trade Center on that tragic day. We also have a real, working 1925 trolley car (Johnstown #358) that every summer weekend carries passengers from Gallo Park to Kingston Point and back. This year, we will also be reintroducing our 1929 J.G. Brill “doodlebug” interurban car no. 120 back into service. No. 120 was out of service since 2000 and has undergone an engine overhaul over the last several months. Our interactive museum features photos of Kingston trolley cars, a fun and informative DVD presentation, model train sets, and neat gift shop. The only thing we don’t have is YOU! TMNY is in great need of volunteers (age 16 and up) both on weekends and during the week. Want to be a conductor, flag-person or even OPERATE the Trolley? Work in the gift shop or help maintain the cars? You can! We will train you and make you an ambassador for this vital piece of Ulster County heritage. Visit our website, www.TMNY.org to learn more about us, see us on any of the major social media platforms, or stop by any weekend (between 12- 5pm) to chat with other volunteers and meet our new administrator. All aboard the Trolley Museum of New York at Kingston!
