You made a difference!
The votes are being tallied and the winner of ConAgra Food Foundations Champion against Child Hunger will be announced on March 25.
I want to say thank you to everyone for being so patient and diligent in this vote. In particular the people who made it a mission to remind others…in the case of Rich T. his reminders to remind even more family and friends, past work associates who emailed “parents, sons and daughters, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, AT&T retirees, two separate American Legion posts, a NJ Police Department, Eastern Star Ladies in Arkansas, and friends and neighbors in all corners of the USA, including Hawaii”. Linda S. who sent posts on the Ulster County Human Services Listserv, the hosts from Kingston Area Public Access who reminded their viewers and of course Jack and Andre from WBPM 92.9 who support the Queens Galley in all of our endeavors including this one. Chef Martin and the circle of culinarians who found time in hectic schedules to put down the knife and click with a mouse and the CIA students rallied by Katie Caro who voted at school between classes. It is comforting that votes were cast in London and India for a fight to end child hunger in America. Child hunger is everywhere; we just need to open our hearts as well as our eyes. You can’t tell which child is hungry just by first glance. Child hunger strikes in large homes and small apartments. Child hunger is on the private school soccer field and on the swing at the welfare motel.
Look in our playgrounds and school yards and count the heads, one,
two, three, four, five…hungry. One in six kids rely on food at school to
get through the day. One in four will eat foods loaded with too much fat
and salt because the family cannot afford better quality foods.
I asked for your vote so I can bring a national spotlight to the work we are doing here…and to bring resources to Ulster County for us to do this job better. What you delivered was much more. You delivered hope and inspiration.
If you live in Ulster County, you’ve seen the ads, posters, banners around town that say “Hunger is not an option” that’s because WE as a community make a difference and there are 23 organizations that will connect families to food. Certainly anyone who can get to Queens Galley knows that hunger is never an option there.
More than 32,000 clicks were cast under my name in this little exercise, clearly I am not alone in this fight to end child hunger…and with the help from ConAgra more kids know they are not alone in their suffering. More importantly they can know they have a champion 🙂
With appreciation and gratitude, thank you!
