Solarize Kingston
Volunteer Job Descriptions
Table-Enable-R
As a volunteer tabling at Solarize Hudson Valley community events, you may be the first person someone talks to about our program! We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated people to engage with participants. You will provide information as well as answer questions. If you are excited about Solarize Hudson Valley and want to help spread the word one-on-one than this is the position for you.
Expected Time commitment: We would like volunteers to sign up to stay for an entire event. There may be opportunities to sign up for smaller time slots if the community event is particularly large or long. We would like each volunteer to dedicate themselves to tabling at least 3 or 4 events throughout the campaign.
Yard Sign Commando
Who knew that yard signs/lawn signs are one of the most potent forms of community marketing! It’s truly “neighbor-to-neighbor.” As a volunteer helping with yard sign placement, you will work with the community to help spread the word visually. We will provide you with a list of homeowners who have agreed to “host” a sign on their lawn. Hopefully you’ll find them at home to confer on sign placement. Work outside and explore new neighborhoods! If you like talking to people and enjoying the sun, this is the position for you. You’ll need your own transportation—and yes, that does include bicycles.
Expected Time Commitment: A total minimum of about 6 hours within the space of a week, scheduled at times that work for you.
Community Workshop Hostest-With-The-Mostest
As a volunteer helping with community workshop set-up and clean-up, you will help us with the physical set-up and strike of chairs, tables and presentation materials. We are looking for volunteers comfortable with moving these items as well as volunteers who are skilled in setting up the technology needed (laptops/projectors/audio).
We will also designate a “Workshop Captain” to be the lead coordinator for each event.
Expected Time Commitment: We will have two shifts, one for set-up and one for clean-up. Volunteer for either, or both. We want you to have the opportunity to speak with our solar reps too. We would like each volunteer to dedicate themselves to at least 3 events.
Home-Baked Is Best!
As a volunteer baking for workshops, you have the opportunity to share your yummy skills with your community and neighborhood. From brownies to cookies to cakes, we want it all. If you can contribute home-baked treats to one or two of our community events, we would be so grateful and people would say such nice things! We will reimburse you for your ingredients of course; simply save your receipts.
Expected Time Commitment: Home baking time the day before or day of an event. We can pick up your items if that’s a help.
Solar Home Tour, Anyone?
Greeters will put up signs so people can find the “solar home tour house”, meet people on the sidewalk or at the front door. Introduce the home-owner. Direct parking if needed, hand out info, organize people into “tour groups” if need be. Who knows—you might be called upon to take the dog for a walk. We’ll also have some “Live Solar Installations” which will need Greeters too!
Expected Time Commitment: We would like volunteers to sign up to stay for an entire event, about 4 hours.
“You Are My Sunshine” Skit & Song leader
Creative event volunteers as those who are musically or artistically inclined and would like to help bring more fun to Solarize Hudson Valley events. We are looking for your brainstorming skills to focus on how we can make activities that will draw-in a wide variety of participants (people walking around some distance away) and keep everyone engaged. Know the words and chords to some good green music? Like to lead a group in song? Storytelling? We would love to have your sense of fun added to our events.
Expected Time Commitment: This one is harder to estimate. Be present at an event, say for an hour. Is some rehearsal time needed? Just to say, we are not looking for professional-level performances. Fun and enaging? Yes. Lady Antebellum? No.
Social Media Photo Maven
As an event photographer volunteer, you will help us create a visual record of our events for our social media pages (Facebook and Instagram) and other media. We are looking for creative and motivated individuals who know how to get people to be natural for your camera. You must be able to provide your own camera and previous photographs for reference. If you love to take pictures and have the time to capture our events, this is the position for you.
Expected Time Commitment: We would expect you to cover a minimum of two events.
