1. DSS will provide the family with housing in a shelter or in a local motel if they have a child(ren) who was born in the US. There will be no repercussions for the parents if they go to DSS for assistance.
2. Family of Woodstock (331-7080) offers Adult Case Management and Spanish speaking case managers.
3. Catholic Charities (340-9170) provides services for undocumented families, mostly legal and rental assistance.
4. United Way’s 2-1-1 provides contact information for agencies that can help.
5. Evelyn Torres, the Career Pathways Coordinator at Orange-Ulster BOCES may be able to answer questions regarding immigration issues. [etorres@ulsterboces.org]
6. All families can eat at Queens Galley or their local soup kitchen. They also have access to most food pantries as well.
7. Workers Right Law Center (Centro de Derechos Laborales) Diana Vazquez 845-331-6615 provides information about tenant’s rights, local shelters, food pantries, utility assistance, and also immigration information.
8. Once a year the Mexican Consulate visits Kingston to help Mexicans obtain necessary documents. This usually happens in the Spring.
9. The Institute for Family Health Family Practice Offices for physical, mental and dental health in Kingston, Ellenville, New Paltz, Port Ewen, Hyde Park and Specialty Care for OB-Gyn in Kingston will not turn anyone away because they can’t pay or don’t have insurance. (All sites, except Port Ewen, have Spanish speaking staff to assist with translation.)
10. Hudson River Community Health in New Paltz provides free health services and serves the migrant population.
11. Undocumented children are eligible for Child Health Plus Health Insurance, unfortunately undocumented adults do not qualify for Medicaid or Family Health Plus. The information is used solely for the purpose of obtaining health insurance and none of the information is turned into INS. Fidelis Care has marketing representatives that speak Spanish.
