The Rotary Club of Phoenicia will hold its annual Duck Race on Sunday, July 26 on the corner of Main Street and Route 214 in Phoenicia. As part of pre-race festivities The Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program will host a free tour of model stream stewardship sites around Phoenicia from 10:00am to 11:30am. The tour is designed for local streamside landowners or community residents with an interest in protecting streamside property from flooding or an interest in wildlife conservation. Participants are asked to meet at the Rotary Duck Race staging area. The tour groups will carpool to sites that demonstrate effective stream management techniques including erosion control, “natural channel design” native plants, willow fascines and invasive plant control.
The tour will be led by Cornell Cooperative Extension Ulster County Watershed Educator, Michael Courtney. The tour will end in time to enjoy the festivities at the duck race. Participants are asked to wear comfortable shoes and bring insect protection. This is a rain or shine event.
