Rondout Valley Growers Association 6th Annual Orchard Dinner and Wine Tasting
This Saturday the Rondout Valley Growers Association (RVGA) held their sixth annual Orchard Dinner and Wine Tasting at the Stone Ridge Orchard in Marbletown. Six of the area’s most prominent chefs displayed their talents in a five course dinner that included hors d’ oeuvres. The chefs highlighted produce grown by RVGA growers including strawberries, rhubarb, sugar snap peas, and arugula. The wine selection was provided by Casa Larga Vineyards and Winery and included Fiori delle Stelle Blanc de Blanc sparkling wine, Vineyard Hills chardonnay, Tre Blanc, a Cabernet Merlot blend and a Vidal ice Wine.
.
The dinner started with remarks from Breezy Hill Orchard owner Elizabeth Ryan, who has recently made arrangements to rent the Stone Ridge Orchard, followed by Bruce Davenport of Davenport Farms and John Colaruotolo of Casa Larga Winery. Also attending the dinner were tenth generation Rondout Valley farmer Jack Schoonmaker and wife Alice of Saunderskill Farm, Chef John Novi of the Depuy Canal House and Nicci Cagan and husband David from the youth and garden organization From the Ground Up. With more than 90 attendees, RVGA executive director Susan Perrin says that this was a record attendance for the annual dinner. Proceeds from the dinner will be used for the marketing of RVGA’s farms and farmers.
