Description:
The NYSDEC Hudson River Estuary Program and Hudson Rivers Fisheries Unit are continuing a volunteer-based River Herring monitoring program this spring. Monitoring will take place between 4/1 – 5/31 during the annual migration of river herring from the ocean into freshwater tributaries to spawn. Each volunteer will conduct visual observations for signs of herring, at least twice a week for 15 minutes at a site close to his or her town. Training is provided and begins in March, no experience necessary. We need at least ten volunteers per site. Time commitment:
15-minute increments at least twice a week from April 1st – May 31st.

Quassaick Creek
When: Wednesday, March 10th, 2:15 – 4:15 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Where: Newburgh Free Academy Lecture Hall, 201 Fullerton Avenue Newburgh, NY 12550-3798. Use the lower parking lot entrance. The lecture hall is next to the planetarium (see planets) on the second floor.
Coeymans Creek and Hannacrois Creek
When: Saturday, March 20th, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
