Phillies Bridge Farm Project seeks volunteers for their summer educational programs. New Paltz, 256-9308.
Phillies Bridge Farm Project seeks volunteers for their summer educational programs – Learn about sustainable agriculture and teach children on an organic farm!
Learn how a small-scale organic farm is used to teach young school children about the cycles of nature that produce our food. Our educational programs are integrated into our summer camp and into schools’ science and social studies curriculum. Activities include:
· A tasting tour of the farm to learn about plant parts and functions.
· A greenhouse scavenger hunt to learn about the life cycle of plants.
· Planting seeds or seedlings and fertilizing them with organic compost, to
learn how nutrient cycles produce our food.
· A sprig or seed hunt to learn about plant life cycles and adaptations.
· Meet the chickens and sheep, collect eggs, make something from wool, and
learn about the role of animals on the farm.
· Pick rocks from the vegetable fields and go on a guided imagery to learn
how rocks are formed
You’ll be trained to lead one 30-40 minute activity for small groups of elementary school children who rotate through your station. Programs are on weekdays, 9:30am-1:30pm, in May, June, September and October at our organic Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Farm just 5 miles south of New Paltz.
Come join us for fun and learning on the farm!
