Farm to Families Dinner
Please join us for an evening of haute cuisine and great wines! The Phillies Bridge Farm Project will host its annual Farm to Families Dinner and wine auction on Thursday, March 25th at Main Course Restaurant in New Paltz.
Now more than ever – local families need the food we provide through the Farm to Families program. Phillies Bridge Farm Project’s produce reaches 1000 local needy people each year – many of whom are children who have never tasted a fresh vegetable. This program distributes food grown on the farm to families in need through various county agencies.
The Farm to Family Program at Phillies Bridge Farm helps build life-long good eating habits. Every week, local agencies pick up pounds and pounds of fresh produce to distribute to families in need. Next, we teach them what to do with the produce once they get it home. At Farm to Families Days, local urban families and children are bused to the farm where they experience the full spectrum of whole food. For some, this is the first time that they have visited a farm, picked fresh vegetables, or seen the delight on their children’s faces when they taste something delicious and fresh in the garden. Participants go out in the fields to see, feel and taste the vegetables. They gather eggs from the hens and learn about chickens and other farm animals. Then, they learn to wash and prepare their harvest into a meal that they enjoy before going home.
Chef Bruce Kazan will prepare the 6-course menu featuring local and organic ingredients with wine pairings provided by New Paltz Wine and Spirits. Our own Fred Mayo will conduct the wine auction featuring wines donated by our board members, each with a special story of its own. Tickets cost $125 with all proceeds above the cost of ingredients directly supporting the Farm to Families program.
