On behalf of the Ministers’ Alliance of Ulster County, I would like to invite you to our Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Program. The program will be at 4:00 pm, Sunday, January 17, 2010 at the Pointe of Praise Family Life Center, 243 Hurley Ave., Kingston.
Our theme this year is, Making A World of Difference. As a country, we are forced to exist in a climate of escalating unemployment rates that could very well exceed the current 10 percent. Declining revenues are forcing local, county and state governments to drastically reduce services. And global climate changes will affect everyone.
Yet, despite all of these dire forecasts of impending environmental, social and financial calamity, we dare to have hope. That’s because one man, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., influenced generations of Americans and the international community, to make a difference. Our theme this year, Making a World of Difference, encourages us to make a difference in our communities and ultimately the world.
This year, we have recognized four community residents (one posthumously) for our Community Achievers Awards. We believe they reflect the spirit of Dr. King’s efforts. They are: William R. Vincent (deceased), scientist, philanthropist; Elder Donald O. Waters, Sr., prison evangelist; Carleton Mabee, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Hudson Valley historian; and Dr. Paula C. Childs, founder, The King’s Kids Early Childhood Development Center.
Our keynote speaker will be Rev. Faye Taylor Banks, pastor, St. Mark’s AME Church, Kingston The program will also include the Community Outreach Choir of Ulster County. I look forward to seeing you on January 17th.
Sincerely,
Rev. Dr. G. Modele Clarke
President
