KINGSTON – Two tons of litter, 8.75 tons of yard waste and 20 tires were picked up in three hours by approximately 200 volunteers for the Second Annual Kingston Clean Sweep on Saturday, April 29. Areas covered included Kingston’s main streets from the uptown business district down the Broadway corridor to Rondout, many bordering streets, and the rail bed from Rondout Savings Bank to the Trolley Museum. Forsyth Park, Academy Green, Hasbrouck Park, Loughran Park and Kingston Point Park were also “swept†as part of “Love Your Parks Day.â€
The event was sponsored by the Friends of Historic Kingston in cooperation with the City of Kingston who picked up the filled bags when the Clean Sweep ended at noon. Volunteers were provided by the Business Alliance of Kingston, Cub Scout Pack 103, Hudson River Maritime Museum, Kingston Boys and Girls Club, Kingston Kiwanis Club, Kingston Lions Club, Kingston Neighborhood Watch, Kingston Opera House Office Building, Kingston Rotary Club, Kingston Sunrise Rotary Club, Kingston Uptown Business Association, Kingston Uptown Residents Association, LGBTQ Center, Project Forsyth Park, Ulster Corps, Ulster Garden Club and Ward Nine Care Group. The Kingston Land Trust oversaw the rail bed cleanup.
Supplies were donated by Herzog’s True Value Home Center and Hannaford’s. Other sponsors were Papa Bear Records and Win Morrison Realty.
