Wednesday was something else. . .you guys totally rocked my world. There was one point when I looked up to see a row of cars coming over the hill and I almost cried (hey, I’m an emotional girl). . .there were 35 cars in that row and the parking lot was already filling up!
So – we guesstimated the number of awesome, astounding and amazing volunteers to be around 300! That’s right, 300 people showed up to harvest for the hungry. We picked 62 bins of apples on Veteran’s Day. . .roughly 62,000 lbs!
That brings us up to 105 bins for 8 days of picking, 24 bins went to NYC, 4 or 5 will stay in Orange County and the rest are being distributed all over eastern New York through the Food Bank. I found this map on the Food Bank’s website that shows what area they cover and demonstrates where the apples are headed:
Wow. That plus NYC.
Thank you!
Attached is a group shot. I feel like I missed most of the action. . .so send me pictures of what I missed!
As for this weekend, it’s supposed to rain tomorrow. Saturday’s gleaning has been cancelled. Those that were scheduled for Saturday are invited to come on Sunday. I will be at the orchard from 10-4 on Sunday. I know that this means some of you won’t be able to make it and I am sorry (we’ve always got next season!)
If you forwarded this to other email lists or know of others who were planning on coming to glean tomorrow, please let them know it’s not gonna happen.
Well Done Everyone!
