The Food Bank of the Hudson Valley was the honored recipient of two recent & prestigious ‘Quality of Life’ awards.
This is not surprising news to the emergency food and shelter providers, senior, daycare, medical and therapeutic rehabilitation sites who depend on the Food Bank as a valuable resource.
Through the Food Bank they can apply for state and national grants. With these grants, there is also free access to top quality government surplus food. This supplements everyday food purchases and assists food pantries and soup kitchens that frequently struggle to acquire both funding and volunteers.
Food Banks also collect large donations of unmarketable provisions from the food industry which allows member agencies to purchase food and other supplies at deep discounts; basically a small handling fee.
At the Food Banks, for every dollar donated, agencies receive $10 to $12 in real food; and eighty-five cents of every dollar goes directly for food.
Pattern for Progress: The ‘Quality of Life Award’ was awarded to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley for finding new sources of support and strategies to aid 370 agencies in the daily struggle against hunger.
“Pattern’s annual awards recognizes corporate and civic leaders whose extraordinary accomplishments have had a regional impact,” said David MacFarland, president of Riverside Bank and chairman of Pattern’s board.
The Orange County Partnership: At the OCP’s “Constructing The Future”event held last night in Newburgh; the Food Bank again won the ‘Quality of Life Award. ‘ This award is given in recognition of an individual, organization or company that has exhibited continued excellence in leadership involving the creation, maintenance, or enhancement of the quality of life in Orange County.
Congratulations again to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley and THANK YOU! for all of your support to the human service agencies in 6 counties! www.foodbankofhudsonvalley.org
