and help others in the process!
Join United Way’s stellar team of Volunteer Tax Preparers. Since 2010 United Way has assisted hundreds of low-wage workers to access the Earned Income Tax Credit, and other tax credits, bringing hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Ulster County economy.
We are looking for that special someone – a “people person” who wants to make a contribution to the community, and enjoys working with numbers.
A mandatory Orientation for New Volunteers will be held on Tuesday, September 15th from 5:30 PM to 8 PM at the United Way, 450 Albany Avenue, Kingston. Subsequent training is primarily online, but experienced volunteers will be available to assist you with any questions you may have. All returning volunteers are welcome to attend the meeting also!
To become a certified volunteer tax preparer you must have ample time.
Training will take approximately 20-25 hours on-line, over a twelve week period between mid-September and December. Volunteers must pass a written test as well as on-line tests to demonstrate their proficiency in tax law in order to become certified.
We serve customers on six consecutive Saturdays in February and March.
The Hudson Valley Mall donates a storefront which we work out of from 9 AM to 3 PM (lunch provided!). United Way supplies the computers that tax preparers use. Volunteers must be able to make a commitment to prepare taxes for a minimum of four Saturdays.
The dates for 2016 are:
Feb. 6, Feb. 13, Feb. 20, Feb. 27, March 5, & March 12
