Volunteers are an incredibly valuable part of our operation and much of the work we do couldn’t be done without them. We rely on volunteers to provide animal care, work outreach events, and to help keep our shelter clean and running smoothly. We are committed to providing each volunteer with a rewarding and productive experience.
How to Become a UCSPCA Volunteer
You must be 18 years or older to volunteer at the sheter. Sorry this is due to insurance reasons here at the shelter. For ways to help if you are under 18 please see our section on How Kids Can Help, or call our Volunteer Coordinator at 331-5377 ext 215 for more suggestions.
Fill out one of our volunteer applications
Attend a general orientation followed by a cat and/or dog orientation (Orientation Dates located below).
Start volunteering when it is convenient for you. We are open for volunteering Tuesday-Sunday 10am-3:30pm. We do not require a minimal amount of hours or sign ups prior to volunteer hours.
Community Service Volunteering
We at the UCSPCA understand that people sometimes have to fulfill a community service obligation, whether it is for court or a school project. As long as it is not a serious felony a person has committed to receive this community service we will consider the UCSPCA a place where this obligation may be fulfilled.
The individual must still be 18 years old due to insurance reasons.
As much as the shelter can be a place for fun and socialization with the animals, if it is for a community service obligation the individual must mainly fulfill this by helping with some less desirable tasks at the shelter( such as cleaning or paperwork). They will also receive social time with the animals.
An individual must not complete the general orientation or cat/dog orientations. Instead they should submit a volunteer application at the shelter to the Volunteer Coordinator or call 845-331-5377 ext 215.
An individual orientation may be scheduled or a simple start date.
The Volunteer Coordinator will write out or sign any necessary documentation to prove that the community service obligation has been filled.
