Teach youth to love science and technology!
By committing to become a Tech Wizards Mentor, you will receive training and support to become a Mentor to up to 4 youth between the ages of 9 and 15. You will learn how to facilitate fun activities and experiments with your Mentees that could include geocaching, robotics and computer coding, and help them to complete a 15 hour community improvement project in Ellenville. The program starts in the beginning of February, but recruitment and training will be on-going throughout the year. This program will be taking place during a variety of times and locations around Ulster County including:
Ellenville– Ellenville Public Library and Museum 2:45-4:15pm on Wednesdays starting Feb 11th.
Open House for Mentors, Mentees and Families Jan 21st at 2:45pm at EPL&M
Kingston– Everette Hodge Center 3pm-4:15pm Wednesdays or Thursdays starting 2nd week of February
Kingston– 3rd site location and times TBD, likely at Bailey or Miller Middle Schools

Position Description:
4-H Mentoring Programs in Ulster County provide life and academic skill mentoring to underserved youth in 5th-10th grades in Kingston and Ellenville. The Tech Wizards program achieves these goals through small group mentoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), fields in which underserved youth are typically underrepresented, and through the completion of community service projects. Each Tech Wizards Mentor is responsible for facilitating STEM activities with a small group of up to 4 youth in a structured afterschool environment.
Position Requirements:
• 1 year completed coursework in Psychology, Education, or related field preferred, but will consider applicants with appropriate subject-matter knowledge and at least 1 year of youth supervisory experience (ie babysitting, camp counselor etc)
• Attend 4 hour Mentor training
• Commitment of approximately 3 hours a week for 1 year
• Reliable transportation to and from mentoring location(s)
Deliverables:
Tech Wizards(Ellenville Public Library and Kingston Schools)
• Facilitate 1-2 1.5 hour sessions a week when school is in session around research-based STEM curricula
• Assist youth in completing a 15-hour community service project and help them to present the project
• Complete needed observations and reports for all mentees
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to organize and facilitate an informal educational program
• Ability to teach and motivate youth about STEM subject areas, and community service projects
• High level communication skills including the ability to connect with youth and parents, communicate with Supervisor about serious issues, and share success in the program
• Must demonstrate youth development experience, and understanding of and commitment to positive youth development principles
• Deliver high-energy training workshops and provide youth with the supervision and feedback they need to thrive
• Dependability, including the ability to be on time and prepared to all trainings and facilitated sessions, and reliable transportation
• Ability to work effectively with diverse people and groups, including varying socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds
• Ability to work effectively with other Mentors, youth, parents, Tech Wizards Coordinator and school, community and professional leaders
• Demonstrated teaching and motivational skills
• Ability to creatively solve problems
• Demonstrated initiative, reliability and dependability in delivering program content
• Ability to evaluate or administer evaluations to youth and deliver to CCEUC Program Staff as needed
Special Requirements:
• Must learn, know and abide by association personnel policies, including background and DMV check
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Specify preferred specialized education, field and/or certifications.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Coursework in education of STEM content highly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Bi-lingual in Spanish highly preferred
• Knowledge of local county needs, and 4-H youth development.
