In keeping with tradition, we welcome the community to gather for our favorite celebration to ring in the good old summertime. All the familiar favorites—food, plants, gifts, music, kids’ games and activities—will be part of the day’s festivities.
The main character of the event is the Books! Books galore. You will find them under the large striped tent, with a wide variety of selections to please everyone, from novels to history, cooking to mystery, biographies, poetry, and a nice collection of art and specialty “coffee table” books.
On Sunday, June 12th from 10am to 2pm, we will host the popular “day after” bag sale, where you can grab a whole bag of books for $8.
Under the Plant Tent you will find everything from flowering annuals, to perennials, herbs and heirlooms. Add to that the divisions donated by our botanically gifted patrons, and you will have a great start to the growing season. And then there are the Lilies! In bags, with variety, height, color and growing preferences clearly marked on their labels. All of these at such great prices!
Eleanor’s Emporium will be laden with gently used table ware, jewelry, stationery and other gifts to wrap for presents or keep for yourself. And the Saturday Knitters will have their beautiful wares for purchase while they demonstrate their craft.
No doubt you will work up an appetite with all this book buying and gift shopping! Good to know that our traditional picnic menu of hot dogs, hamburgers, and sausage and peppers will be available.
Allison Reidy of Cherries will join us this year as “chef du jour.” She will also prepare vegetarian dishes to round out the day’s offerings.
Save room for Strawberry Shortcake! Local berries will be picked and our strawberry crew will hull and bake to assure that this mouth-watering treat will be ready for everyone to indulge. And of course we will have lemonade, coffee and tea, root beer floats, home baked cookies, and artisanal bread for everyone to enjoy with friends or take home.
In keeping with tradition, we are fortunate to have music donated by talented musicians to entertain us on Fair Day! Cheryl and Kurt will play at 11, Bloom Women’s Ensemble led by Debbie Lan will perform at Noon, and Breakaway with Robin Baker are on board at 1pm. The Rondout Valley High School Jazz Band under the direction of Randolph Loder will once again wrap up the entertainment, starting at 2pm. Steve and Terri Mossardo will provide sound this year.
Children’s activities will be provided all day and a selection of children’s books and toys will be on sale as well.
The Library Fair is our biggest fundraising event of the year with proceeds going to the operating budget, for books and supplies, heat and other essentials. Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who make the Fair possible, and to the community that has supported the event for…69 years and counting!
