RUPCO is looking for a half-dozen or so volunteers to help out with a Fit Trail Facelift at Woodstock Commons, Playhouse Lane, Woodstock on Friday, June 5 from 9a-3p (we’ll provide lunch). We’re expanding a woods walking path, connecting three neighborhoods, and also doing a full-sun flower garden.
Any help with a handful of volunteers who want to get their hands dirty this Friday is greatly appreciated.
PURPOSE:
— to honor NeighborWorks Week, a national campaign for community engagement
— to install a Fit Trail extension through Woodstock Commons, that will connect three neighborhoods, expand the woods walk network, and provide a healthy, safe environment in which to walk (a healthy activity). We’re also installing a full-sun flower garden.
NeighborWorks Week 2015
Talking Points
· On June 6-14, NeighborWorks America and its network of local organizations kicks off the 32nd annual NeighborWorks Week, a weeklong celebration in which thousands of volunteers come together to help make their communities healthy, sustainable places.
· Nearly 200 affordable housing and community development organizations are holding events across the country, that range from rehabbing and repairing homes, beautifying parks, conducting neighborhood tours, recognizing successful partnerships, and hosting events that educate and train others.
· NeighborWorks Week is aimed at celebrating the community spirit, with a particular focus on resourcefulness and innovative solutions to provide opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives, and strengthen their communities.
· For example, in our region, RUPCO is holding a Fit Trail Facelift, expanding the woods walk network, connecting three neighborhoods and providing a healthy, safe environment in which to walk (a healthy activity).
· A home is much more than just a brick and mortar structure. It is the cornerstone to opportunity and it must be connected to jobs, quality schools, child care, transportation, health care and support for seniors.
· The health of a community is inextricably linked to a myriad of factors. Together, NeighborWorks America and the NeighborWorks network helps residents to build stronger communities, achieve and maintain homeownership and support the creation and preservation of affordable rental homes. A vibrant and prosperous future for our communities both urban and rural can be created, one neighborhood at a time.
