Note: just til 2PM
We hope you will pass the word to family, friends and neighbors to bring a beloved but broken item to be repaired…for free (& fun!).
And at Noon, seamstress-extraordinaire Lisa Weinstein will show us “How to Sew on a Button”–the next in our series of DIY Workshops.
Truth is, there are many wrong ways to go about it, and Lisa will show us how…
to sew it so
the button “buttons up”
the way it’s s’posed to!
(and stays on for a long time to come).
Bring a beloved button-less item of your own…and a button!
And have you heard? There is a “Fair Repair” movement. A bill being introduced into the NY State Assembly and Senate would require manufacturers to provide product owners with fair access to service info & replacement parts. Thanks Justin Peone for alerting us to this.

See you Saturday!

Repair Cafe is a free community meeting place to bring a “beloved but broken” item to be repaired…for free.
The guys and gals–all volunteers–who do the repairs have sophisticated skills. This is a high level of repair. A lot of stuff gets fixed. People leave very happy.
The #1 item people bring are lamps. Vacuum cleaners are #2. Beyond that, we see just about everything under the sun. Many items carry deep meaning for the owner, and indeed there are laughter and tears of joy at Repair Cafe. Feelings of gratitude are strong. And those of us who make the repairs feel equally gratified.
Of course, we cannot guarantee that the item you bring will get repaired. All we can guarantee is that you’ll have an interesting time!
Over the last 2 years, the comment we hear most from people is not “It got fixed.” It is not “It was free.’ The comment we hear most often is: “It was fun!”
Perhaps you know the Leonard Cohen song lyric: “There is a crack in everything. That is how the light gets in.” It has been our touchstone from the start.
