Saturday July 30th, 11am-3pm
Clinton Avenue United Methodist Church
122 Clinton Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401
(in mid-town Kingston)
Kingston Transition sponsored the first Kingston Repair Café in June 2014 and we have been holding them every second month since then. Thanks to the generous support of the Clinton Avenue United Methodist Church we have a great space, even a kitchen, and a growing group of coaches which include people who can fix mechanical and electrical items, but also wood, and digital items. We have a team of sewing coaches, a jewelry expert and book restorer who can handle ceramics and other things that require glue and patience. We also have a Soul Repairer who will take time to talk and a bilingual Advocate who can help Spanish speakers negotiate difficulties with the schools, banks and various government offices. In fact – se habla espanol – we have several Spanish speakers and welcome Spanish speaking clients for the Café. Our kids’ break up table is constantly popular. All repairs are free and there is no need to make an advance appointment.
Call or email and let us know if you have a skill you would like to volunteer. We would love to hear from you! Email kingstonrepaircafe@gmail.com or call 845 339 2526.
Bring a donation for the Food Pantry if you can.
If you bring something to the Repair Café please remember one of the reasons for the Repair Café movement is to re-learn skills we have lost in our disposable society. So we expect you to stay and watch and ideally learn how to fix what you brought. Our volunteer coaches are exactly that, volunteers for the day. Some may do this for a living, and you can reach them at their professional locations for further repairs, but while at the Repair Café all the coaches are there to show you how they do it – or advise you what needs to be done, if they do not have the means to fix it there. If they feel it is not repairable, they will explain why. They will not fix items unless the owner stays to watch and learn.
