Repair Cafe
Saturday April 25th, 2015, 11am-4pm
Clinton Avenue United Methodist Church
122 Clinton Avenue, Kingston
The Repair Cafe is a not for profit (donations towards the Church and the Food Pantry gratefully accepted) and sponsored by Kingston Transition – We have volunteer “coach fixers” – people with skills fixing mechanical, electrical, digital, wooden items. Also people who can sew, mend toys, china, glass, jewelry- anything really. They work with the customers to show them how to fix their item, and fix them for free. The idea is first, to help regrow the skills that have been lost in our throw away society, and second, to learn that just because something is broken it does not have to be thrown away.
We are looking for people (can be teenagers, young people) who could give 2-3 hours to help with signing customers in, introducing them to the appropriate repair coaches, helping them sign out and write any comments, also help with snacks and refreshments, and maybe take photos. 12-2pm is usually the most busy time. No skills required except a friendly ability to talk to people. Contact is Gai Galitzine gai.galitzine@gmail.com or 914 263 7368
If there are volunteers who would like to be repair coaches they can contact Dimitri at 914 522 5336, bilingual volunteers particularly helpful.
