Red Cross Shelter Training Exercise
Saturday Saturday October 18, 2014, 12-3pm
Alcoa Fastening Systems, 1 Corporate Drive, Kingston
Free and open to the public
The Shelter Training Exercise will cover working in the different areas of the shelter, dorm, feeding, registration, etc. This is a hands-on follow-up to the Shelter Fundamentals Training which has been and continues to be offered at locations around the county and online. We will have cots and other needed equipment to work with to give you first hand experience. All of those attending will break into activity groups and learn how to set up and work in the different areas of the shelter. This will give everybody a chance to see how it is done and the issues we face in a sheltering situation. The training is free and open to the public, but RSVP is required. A minimum of 8 registrants is required or the training will be cancelled. If you’d like to participate, please contact UlsterCorps at volunteer@ulstercorps.org or register below.
If you’re interested in working in the emergency shelter but have yet to take the basic training class, please contact us at the above address, as completing it is the essential requirement for taking the exercise. Alternatively you can take the online Shelter Fundamentals Training available through the Red Cross’ online training site SABA (see registration instructions below).
Please register as a Red Cross volunteer here:
https://volunteerconnection.redcross.org/?nd=vms_entry_point_listing&tagent=rco&unit_id=234
to get your background check done and activated so we can get your badge and have your liability insurance. You also must register on SABA (see instructions below) which is the learning platform where you get credit for your training and is linked to your profile in the Red Cross so we can work with you in the future. If you want to help out in the next disaster it would be great if you could do these steps so we can move forward.
Also, let us know if you’re interested in Shelter Management Training in the coming months. We’ll need at least 2 shelter managers.
