End-of-Life Doula Volunteer
Information Session
Put Your Heart in Service
To People at the End of Life
Hudson Valley Hospice is starting an End-of-Life Doula program. Just as a birth doula brings greater comfort and meaning to the process of labor and delivery, our end-of-life (EOL) Doulas will offer the same for the process of dying. This innovative program helps people:
• Explore and preserve the stories, wisdom and messages that give life meaning.
• Plan for what they want to see, hear, and feel around them in the last days.
• Create and use guided visualization and ritual for comfort and meaning.
• Give loved ones the rest they so badly need from the demands of caregiving.
• Understand the dying process and offer round the clock support.
• Insure that the person doesn’t die alone and that the final breaths aren’t missed.
• Offer support after the death as loved ones begin their grief process.
Our EOL Doula volunteers will receive thorough training in understanding the dying process and in the skills that can help bring peace and comfort to all involved.
Please join us for one of the free information sessions offered below. After hearing about the program, you can decide if you would like to take the training to become an End-of-Life Doula. There is no obligation. To register for the information session in Poughkeepsie, please call 845-473-2273, ext. 1124. In Kingston, please call 338-5397, ext.2207.
