Everything you need, including the exam, in one weekend.
INSTRUCTION AND EXAMINATIONS CONDUCTED BY THE OVERLOOK MOUNTAIN AMATEUR RADIO CLUB.
If you’ve ever wanted to learn about amateur (“ham”) radio, it’s time to do something about it! This class gives you everything you need to pass the written examination for a Technician class amateur radio license.
Saturday is a full day of learning sessions and radio demonstrations. Sunday morning finishes the class and prepares you for the exam. On Sunday afternoon, you take the exam – if you pass, you’ll leave as a licensed ham radio operator! Technician class is the entry-level amateur license issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). No prior experience is needed, and there is no minimum (or maximum) age limit.
This license allows you to talk with other hams all over the world, send and receive digital communications through your computer, and communicate with satellites and the International Space Station (ISS). Amateur radio is also an essential part of disaster and emergency response. In recent hurricanes where electricity, telephones, cell phones, and the Internet all failed, amateur radio operators responded and provided critical communication capability. The Technician license is perfect for emergency responders, survivalists, and anyone else who wants to be prepared for anything. It’s also the starting point for more advanced licenses that add more technical knowledge, communications options, and fun to the hobby.
Absolutely no Morse code test is required for the Technician class license. The cost for the weekend is $25, which includes refreshments, handouts, and the examination. fee. You will also need a copy of the textbook, “Technician Class 2014-2018” by Gordon West. The book is available from amazon.com and other online bookstores.
Pre-registration is required. The registration deadline is January 8. To register, or to get more information, contact Keith Tilley, (845) 687-9951, ktilley@hvc.rr.com. There is a pre-class study assignment – register early so you have plenty of time to prepare!
