And are you interested in building upon those skills to really make a difference in the broader community? Family of Woodstock’s upcoming semi-annual hotline training is just what you’re looking for!
The next training sessions start February 13th, though this time with a twist! Along with the essential listening and crisis intervention training for our phone and walk-in center volunteers that we usually offer, we are adding a new service! It’s time for our Family, just like yours, to start texting!
Text crisis lines have become an incredibly useful resource in the hotline community. Family will launch textmeback in 2016, and we have begun the process of training our existing and new hotline volunteers with this new service. Training covers the core of Family’s phone and texting hotline and walk-in services. Training topics include domestic violence, child abuse, mental health and substance abuse, adolescent issues, suicide, and homelessness. You will learn active, compassionate listening skills and discover ways to connect with people in need.
Family offers an opportunity to be part of the change you wish to see in the world. Intervention is as simple as answering a phone call or text message at the moment someone reaches out. It is as direct as offering a cup of coffee and a bag of food to someone who is hungry. It takes your skills,and combines them with the amazing depth of resources that Family has gathered over its 45 year history.
