Drum Boogie Festival
September 12, 2015 (rain date 9/13)
Andy Lee Field, Woodstock
Drum Boogie Festival® is a free, one-day, family-oriented, multi-cultural arts and educational event, celebrating and promoting the many styles of high quality percussion music found throughout the world. The festival strives to keep a balance of entertainment, enlightenment, excitement and equality. All performances will highlight percussion instruments and percussion performers while sometimes including other instrumentalists, dancers and singers. Garry Kvistad, founder and CEO of Woodstock Chimes®, is a professional musician and creator / Executive Director of the Drum Boogie Festival which was held in 2009 and 2011. With the continued support of major sponsors, the community and donations, the Festival will be held every two years.
The festival presents world class talent while providing an opportunity for emerging or lesser known talent to perform together. Audiences are exposed to a variety of percussion styles such as: Jazz, Taiko, Flamenco, Rock, Classical, Native American, African, East Indian and more. This event is part of a continuing effort on the part of the Woodstock Chimes Fund to help recognize Ulster County as a major destination for art and cultural activities.
Volunteers will be needed from 8 AM to 10 PM in various shifts and tasks. Help is needed in these areas: set-up/clean-up crew, check-in, ground crew, green room, stage hands, movers, parking, selling water, Quackstock, and whatever else may be needed.
Our last minute needs are:
Stage Hands:
1 for a 9am-12 pm shift
1 for a 4 pm – 7 pm shift
Parking:
1 for a 3 – 6 pm shift
3-4 for a 6 – 8 pm shift (this shift will likely end early)
Stage hands will be helping moving instruments and equipment on and off the stage and possibly helping performers loading their vehicles.
Parking volunteers will be stationed at either Andy Lee Field directing cars where they can unload and directing folks with handicap access…or directing people to alternative parking lots. Parkers at the Mountain View lot on Rock City Road will be keeping track of whether the lot is full and directing people to alternate lots.
There will be a check in table in the foyer of the Mescal Hornbeck Community Center, 56 Rock City Road. Volunteers will receive a badge and instructions.
There will be a lead volunteer at each position…and all volunteers will have access to food in the Green Room one hour before or after their shift.
Mature young people (over 17) should be fine for these slots. Obviously, stage hands need to be able to lift and carry and parking vols need to be able to stand for long periods.
If you can help out Email or call FOW (679-2485) and let Arlene Ferrieri know if you would like to volunteer.
