On Thursday, March 16, the Marbletown Community Center will open its doors for an evening meeting of residents looking for an opportunity to make a difference in their community and help the environment and the local economy. Together with Environmental Conservation Committees, local elected officials and key staff from Solarize Hudson Valley, potential volunteers will learn how a commitment of as little as 2 hours a week can make a difference!
“The Town of Rochester is pleased to be participating in this collaborative effort with our adjoining communities,” said Laura Finestone, MA, chair of the Town of Rochester Environmental Conservation Commission. “It speaks to our collective commitment to using and promoting sound environmental practices while contributing to our local economy.”
Volunteers from across Ulster County are welcome. The lead towns participating in this Solarize campaign are: The Town of Olive, The Town of Marbletown, The Town of Rochester, and the Town of Wawarsing. There is no age requirement for volunteers, but parent or guardian consent is needed for area high school students interested in getting involved. The actual campaign is expected to launch in late April or early May, and volunteers will be trained in the weeks leading up to that launch.
“The Town of Olive recognizes the importance of the cost savings for its residents, as well as the value to the environment in promoting solar energy as a substitute for fossil fuels as a source in meeting our need for electricity,” said Jim Mays, chair of the Town of Olive Conservation Advisory Council. “And we’re delighted to join with our neighbors in an event promoting solar installations in our community.”
