Over the past year, many community, county and state agencies have been working together to create a more resilient and safe Ulster County. Alcoa Fastening Systems and American Red Cross are partnering to host a celebration of our community’s emergency preparedness and disaster recovery initiatives.
A forum and open house will be held at the Alcoa Fastening Systems Kingston location (1 Corporate Drive) on Saturday, October 18, 2014 to recognize established programs and volunteers. The event is designed to engage the community in disaster preparedness and response and to raise awareness of available community services and county-wide volunteering opportunities.
The forum, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm, will begin with keynote speaker Richard French, Chief of Training and Exercises for the Office of Emergency Management and the Department of Homeland Security covering the topic of disaster resiliency; followed by Michael Raphael, American Red Cross Disaster Response Manager for Ulster County, who will discuss the “Whole Community Approach” to disaster. A panel discussion with Steve Peterson, Ulster County Emergency Manager and chairpersons of the Ulster County Disaster Response and Recovery Committee will give brief overviews of their individual program missions. The open house from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm will include informational booths from local human service organizations, citizen CPR, fire safety awareness, children’s activities such as “Masters of Disaster”, free food by Stone Pony Deli, performances by POOK and Energy Dance Company, and more. There will be a community blood drive.
