Esopus Creek Conservancy will host a work party for Saturday, November 14th . The work party will start at 8 am and go until noon. We will meet at the Shady Lane entrance of the Preserve.
The work party will involve trail maintenance and staging of construction materials for capital improvement projects. Here are some of the specific tasks we will attempt to complete, depending on turnout and participant limitations:
– Move materials to trail intersections, dig post holes, mix and pour concrete, and set trail sign posts at all Preserve trail intersections.
– Move construction materials to the wetlands boardwalk site, including heavy pre-assembled components.
– Trail and habitat restoration and improvement as needed. Most likely will involve cutting brush and small tree limbs, and hauling debris to site
piles (depending on priorities and blow down occurring between now and the scheduled work party date), and moving wood chips to elevated
some low drainage sections of the wetlands trail.
Tools needed are shovels, rakes and wheel barrows and don’t forget your work gloves. If you know you are going to be able to make it please respond so we can make plans.

Esopus Bend Nature Preserve is a unique 161-acre preserve located partially within both the village and town of Saugerties along a dramatic bend in the Esopus Creek less than a mile from the Hudson River. We are an all-volunteer organization, and volunteers are essential to achieve our goals. Volunteers have worked to restore the meadow area where visitors can now observe a wide variety of wildflowers, birds and butterflies. Environmental education walks are scheduled throughout the year. Partnering with the Catskill Center and the Saugerties school district, we opened up Esopus Bend as an outdoor classroom for local schools. Whether you would like to be called for a special task, serve on a committee, work outdoors on the preserve, or help in some other way, we would like to hear about you and your interests.
