Dear Editor:
THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS
We want to extend a sincere thank you to all the Guests of Honor, musicians, volunteers, restaurants, supporters & friends who made the first annual Ulster Volunteers Day so very special. The picnic and music festival, organized collaboratively by UlsterCorps, Dianova USA and RSVP at SUNY Ulster, celebrated volunteers from across Ulster County as Guests of Honor, and commemorated September 11 National Day of Service.
Our thanks go out to Sam Magarelli and the Woodstock Volunteers Day Committee for planting the seed for this county-wide event, and to the many restaurants who donated food, and sponsors who assisted with funding: Adams Fairacre Farms, The Alternative Baker, Armadillo Grill, Bruderhof Communities, Bruynswyck Inn, Crossroads Deli, Davenport Farms, Dietz Stadium Diner, Fleisher’s, GK 4 LLC, Gomen-Kudasai, Hannafords, Home Plate Deli, Hopped Up Cafe, Hudson Coffee Traders, Lighthouse Solar, Mountain Brauhaus, PDQ Printers, ShopRite of Kingston and Ulster Savings Bank. Thank you to Epworth Center in High Falls, NY for generously donating the use of their beautiful 160-acre retreat center for this event.
We are grateful to Congressman Maurice Hinchey for his years of service and humbled to have been honored by him.
Thank you to musicians Haynie & Samuel, Los Thujones and LC People and to the many volunteers who stepped up and helped make this event run smoothly.
Due to a forecast that included the possibility of tornadoes, we had to move the event from Saturday to Sunday, and some people who planned to attend couldn’t, including Assemblymember Kevin Cahill and Woodstock musician Bill Pfleging.
We hope to see all of you next year at the second annual Ulster Volunteers Day.
Beth McLendon, UlsterCorps
