800 Coats in 8 hours!
February 9th, 2009
“Project Coats,” grew from an UlsterCorps Facebook posting where an individual wrote that she knew of 800 brand new youth winter coats in NJ available for donation, but didn’t know how to pick them up or where to donate them. UlsterCorps was able to coordinate this donation, finding 10 volunteers with strong arms and large vehicles to drive to NJ, pick up the coats and distribute them to agencies throughout the county that indicated an interest in receiving them: Family of Woodstock, Rural & Migrant Ministry, Harbor Program of MHA in Ulster, River Haven, the Saugerties & Kingston Boys & Girls Clubs, and more. The quantity of coats was too large for one service agency to handle; by working together through UlsterCorps, many agencies and youth were beneficiaries during the cold, long winter season.
Thank you so much to Matthew Bruderman, Ed Arnold & Judy Ward of Arctix Clothing & Alpha 6 Distributions, LLC, for your incredibly generous donation, and to Ilene, Paula, Ruth, Max, Rik, Beth, Nancy, Will & Paavo for being a part of this great day and helping to bring a new, warm coat to so many children.
