HomeShare Woodstock and HomeShare Kingston (watch for it Fall, 2024!)
HomeShare Woodstock is a home sharing program that matches a home Provider (with extra room in their home or a studio or cottage on their property) with a home Seeker looking for an affordable rental and that may include a task exchange as part of the arrangement. Applicants are given a thorough interview conducted by trained HomeShare Woodstock staff. Vetting includes background and credit checks and multiple references. Matches are based on preferences, common needs and interests. The process also includes a two-week trial period to ensure that the match is agreeable to both parties, and if not, the applicants remain in our files for future matches. Matches are supported as needed by a Match Coordinator. As of January, 2024 we have six active Matches involving sixteen individuals!
HomeShare Woodstock is a program of Family of Woodstock. It is free of charge and provides security and confidentiality in our process. We welcome homes within a 10 mile radius of Woodstock including the towns of Saugerties, Phoenicia, Hurley, West Hurley, Shokan and Boiceville. Home seekers can come from anywhere but priority is given to those who work, volunteer or have lived in Woodstock. In early 2024, HomeShare Woodstock is collaborating with the Kingston Housing Task Force to survey Kingston residents about their interest in a home share program. Volunteer Opportunities!
We would love to have your energy, skills and ideas!
Join our Advisory Board – Help us assess the program, create policies and procedures and help publicize HomeShare Woodstock. 4-8 hours a month
Help with social media and in-person outreach activities – Home sharing is a new idea and we need many “ambassadors” to help spread the word. Sign up for events as you are able so hours are variable.
Be Part of our Interview Team – Essential to home sharing is identifying compatible matches between hosts and guests. If you have experience as a counselor or social worker, we would love to have you join our team. We interview applicants and create matches. This job requires some training (Family of Woodstock volunteer training — which is a gift to you!). The time commitment will vary but could be 4-6 hours a week, depending on the number of applicants to be considered at the time.
Program Support – This includes data entry, reference checking or help with PR

Many young people find themselves living on their own before they are emotionally and financially prepared. Others have infants while still teenagers themselves. FAMILY’s MidWay Program is designed to help young adults ages 16- 21 learn to live successfully and build the skills to live independently.
Volunteers needed for projects including painting all kids’ rooms and offices, gardening/landscaping in the spring, driving kids to laundry services, grocery shopping, job opportunities, medical appointments, etc. tutoring, both college level and high school, any extra curricular activities in the community, like movies, meals, theater, parks, swimming, etc. Kitchen repairs are desperately needed in Midway I (Kingston), including creating more shelf space and repairing the cabinets.

FAMILY House is a safe, supportive shelter for up to fourteen young people ages 12-18 who cannot live with their families at the time. The facility is drug and alcohol free and is staffed 24 hours a day. Youth may stay up to sixty days. Residents go to school, participate in groups, and share house chores. FAMILY House regularly performs group community service projects as well. In the summer, there is a varied recreation program, including outdoor, art, computer and other activities. Family House residents sign a contract in which they agree to a number of house rules including a strict curfew.
Family House needs volunteers to assist in creating a new garden: clearing overgrowth on a slope that leads to a flat clearing; the clearing effort needs more equipment and brawn, and the gardening area needs prepping and fencing. The effort would also benefit from a volunteer or two committing a couple of hours once a week to help keep the garden up. This time would be done with the clients as a Recreation group. Contact Kie at 338-5953.
